There are several ways to point a domain name to another domain or subdomain and one of them is by creating a CNAME record. If you own a domain and you have developed a website through some on-line service that provides you with a service subdomain, you could easily link the two by creating a CNAME record for your-domain.com that points to subdomain.provider.com. What you'll achieve with this is that www.your-domain.com will be in the web browser address bar while it opens the already mentioned website from the servers of the third-party company. It is very important to know that if you set up a CNAME record, any other records your domain address may have will stop working, so you can't have both a CNAME record pointing to one provider and functioning email addresses with another. The CNAME record is always an alpha string, not a number, and sometimes further configuration may be needed with the other provider.

CNAME Records in Cloud Website Hosting

In case you have a cloud website hosting plan through our company and you would like to create a CNAME record, it will take you just a few clicks to do it. You can access the DNS records for all domain names and subdomains hosted inside your account via the Hepsia CP included with each and every plan and adding a new record is as simple as clicking on a button, choosing the type, which is CNAME in this case, inputting the actual record value and saving the modification. If you have never added such a record before, we have a Help section with a detailed video tutorial which you can watch, or you can just contact us and we will help you with this task. If you have built a website using another provider, you want to use a private URL for your webmail or you wish to designate a subdomain to be used with the services of a different provider, for example Google Apps, all it takes is setting up a CNAME record with a couple of mouse clicks in your CP.
